Flicks and what I thought

George A. Romero brought us the first Dawn Of The Dead about 25 years ago. It was one of the classic zombie movies - shambling undead zombies with an unholy hunger for human flesh are after a small group of normal people. Classic.

For once, Hollywood got a remake right - this movie kicked much ass. Beware - the zombies in this movie don't shamble. They run. And they run fast. You'd never have thought that this town in Wisconsin could have accumulated so many world-class sprinters, but watching these zombies move, well, you wonder.

Surprisingly, the gore was kept to an acceptable level. Yes, there were blood sprays and such, but not the 5 gallon buckets of it as in the Romero original.

And the one-liners... Oh lord, the one-liners were great. This movie had some real humor in it. There were parts that made the entire theater roar with laughter. But don't get me wrong - this was a good horror flick as well, and there were some genuinely scary parts too. Right Ellen?

All in all, this was a fun, scary, enjoyable movie. You have to be a fan of zombie movies - this wasn't an academy-award-winning epic. It was a fun, creepy, zombie movie, and I had a blast.

Talk about a blast from the past - Starsky and Hutch!

Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller play Starsky and Hutch, respectively. These two really click - they work very well together. Hell, even Snoop Dogg did a fantastic job in this movie!

This flick was chock full of subtle humor. You really had to pay attention to catch it all - not to mention, it helps if you watched the original series. My buddy Paul didn't, and he didn't appreciate this movie nearly as much as I did.

I'm not going to give away anything - just go in with an open mind, expecting to see a fun movie. It delivers that quite well indeed.
