08-06-2003: Today, I salute! a local business, who gave me a break after someone pulled a hit-and-run on my car last night.
Today, I salute! Mathison Midwest Collision Center in Ames, Iowa, USA. I called them and asked about having them just yank the dents out enough so that the quarterpanel didn't shred my tire, and the very polite woman told me to swing on by.
I did, and they had me drive right in. Two gentlemen discussed it for about 15 seconds, before grabbing a dent puller and fixing things well enough for me to drive safely.
It's not pretty, but that's fine - I'm not going to spend a bunch of my money on fixing an older car just before I trade it in. The point is, they took a few minutes out of their busy day to help me out, and they didn't charge me a dime.
How often does that happen nowadays? Most places would have charged me a half hour of labor, at the very least.
They earned a customer today. Maybe I'll be lucky, and I'll never need body work done. But if I do, I'll go back to Mathison's. They treated me right, even though I wasn't a customer.
